Bernardo Silva's screamer, Cancelo shows off – Manchester City International Roundup (07/09/21)

Joao Cancelo and Bernardo Silva put on a masterful display in Azerbaijan. Riyad Mahrez's Algeria struggle in Morocco. Cole Palmer shines for England in the Under-21 qualifiers.

 

Azerbaijan 0-3 Portugal


Manchester City trio Ruben Dias, Joao Cancelo, and Bernardo Silva started this Group A game for Portugal. The energiser bunny that is Bernardo Silva scored a fantastic opener, with Joao Cancelo providing the assist for the third goal for Diogo Jota. Joao Cancelo pulled out all the tricks as he nutmegged two players within a few seconds. It was an outstanding display of skill on the touchline. Definitely check out the highlights on this one. Joao Cancelo and Ruben Dias completed the game, while Bernardo Silva was taken off in the 78th minute. Portugal top their group.

Burkina Faso 1-1 Algeria


Riyad Mahrez captained his national side as they took on Burkina Faso in CAF Group A. Both sides were looking to take top spot. Both sides had three points prior to kick off. An opening goal from Sofiane Feghouli, supplied by Islam Slimani was answered by Abdoul Fessal Tapsoba. The game ended in a stalemate. Two games into the group, Algeria remain top of CAF Group A by virtue of their superior goal difference. Riyad Mahrez played the entire 90 minutes.

 

(Under-21) England 2-0 Kosovo


In U-21 news, Manchester City’s Cole Palmer scored a simply outrageous goal in England’s win over Kosovo in the European U-21 Championship Qualifying Group One. He won the Player of the Match award for his efforts.
