Darren England appointed as referee for Swindon Town vs Manchester City

Updated: Jan 6, 2022

Darren England has been appointed as the referee for the FA Cup third-round tie between League Two side Swindon Town and Premier League leaders Manchester City. The match will be played under the lights at the County Ground on Friday the 7th of January, 20:00 (GMT) kick-off.

DARREN ENGLAND

England has only ever refereed one City game in his career, a 1-0 victory over Brighton in January 2021 – a game that saw England award City with a spot-kick late on in the match that Raheem Sterling failed to dispatch.

The 36-year-old Yorkshireman has taken charge of eleven matches across all competitions this season, including nine Premier League matches, in which he has handed out 43 yellow cards, 1 red card and 7 penalty kicks. An average of 3.9 bookings per match.

The only red card that England has distributed this season came in the clash at Molineux between Wolves and Brentford, where Shandon Baptiste was sent for an early bath after a second yellow card. This, however, did not have too much of an impact on the game as Brentford won the game 2-0.
