Ferran Torres on target, Laporte injury boost - Manchester City International Roundup (05/09/21)

After the last round of internationals, a selection of Manchester City's stars were back in action for their countries, all in FIFA World-Cup qualifiers. It was a great evening for all three sides. A trio of convincing wins, plenty of goals and clean sheets. Here's the lowdown.

England 4-0 Andorra

Unlike England's previous game, all of City's English representatives started on the bench. Gareth Southgate fielded a rotated team, from the midweek one, for a game that looked a lot more simple - on paper at least. Jack Grealish was the only one out of him, Raheem Sterling, John Stones and Kyle Walker to get any minutes. Grealish was brought on in the 62nd minute with the score 1-0 to the hosts, it ended 4-0 to England. City's number 10 wasn't directly involved with any of the goals.

Spain 4 - 0 Georgia

All of City's Spanish trio started tonight in their 4-0 win against Georgia, former City player Eric Garcia also started at centre-back alongside Aymeric Laporte. However, Laporte was subbed off at half-time with an injury concern. Ferran Torres played until the 61st minute when he was subbed off. He scored Spain's third goal, just before the break. Rodri was the only one who avoided substitution, he also made the most passes in the match. It was an important victory for Spain, especially after their last defeat, and City's trio all contributed.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Luis Enrique provided a positive update on Laporte's injury situation:

"I think it's nothing [adductor issue]. Slight discomfort/overload. I don't even think he'll need any tests"

Germany 6 - 0 Armenia

After starting Germany's last game, Ilkay Gundogan started from the bench in this one. He came on in the 61st minute, by then Germany where already 5-0 up. The game finished 6-0 and Germany overtook Armenia as group-toppers.

ZACK STEFFEN COVID POSITIVE

The United States Men's National Team have announced that City #2 Zack Steffen has tested positive for COVID-19 and will not be available for the country's next two World Cup qualifying matches.

Steffen is now set to miss the first few City fixtures after the international break.
