Four City players feature in World Cup qualifying – Manchester City International Roundup (01/09/21)

The first round of games in the international break saw several blues in action for their countries. Oleksandr Zinchenko started for Ukraine against Kazakhstan. Joao Cancelo, Ruben Dias, and Bernardo Silva all started for Portugal against the Republic of Ireland. Nathan Ake took a place on the bench for the Netherlands against Norway.

Kazakhstan 2-2 Ukraine

Oleksandr Zinchenko took up his usual role in midfield for his national side, playing all 90 minutes in a 2-2 draw. He earned himself a yellow card for his efforts, but Ukraine have now drawn all four games in Group D. They are currently placed in second but have played more games than the rest of their group. Zinchenko will miss Ukraine's upcoming game against France after picking up the yellow card against Kazakhstan.

Portugal 2-1 Republic of Ireland

Three Manchester City players started this game for Portugal. Joao Cancelo played for 82 minutes, and Ruben Dias and Bernardo Silva played the full 90 minutes. Nineteen-year-old Gavin Bazunu (on loan at Portsmouth) saved a Cristiano Ronaldo penalty before the Republic of Ireland took the lead through John Egan. Cristiano Ronaldo made up for his penalty miss with an equaliser in the 89th minute, then scored the winner late on in the 96th minute. Portugal remain at the summit of Group A with three wins and one draw in four games.
