Kalvin Phillips set to undergo Manchester City medical on Friday

Kalvin Phillips is set to undergo his Manchester City medical as he closes in on a £42 million + £3 million transfer from Leeds United, replacing outgoing club captain Fernandinho at the Premier League champions.

News broke at the end of last week that the Blues had reached an agreement with Leeds over the transfer of Phillips for a total potential fee of £45 million; £42 million up front and a further £3 million in potential add-ons, while a separate deal that would see City Academy youngster Darko Gyabi join Leeds for £5 million was also being finalised.

It was revealed by Mike Keegan of the Daily Mail that amid interest from other Premier League clubs and PSG, Phillips would only entertain moving to City from his boyhood Leeds.

This information was corroborated by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, who added that clubs had offered “way better” proposals to Leeds for the player – but he had informed all relevant parties, including other potential suitors, that he only wanted to play for City and Pep Guardiola.

It has been reported by Wayne Veysey of Football Insider that the 26-year-old is scheduled to undergo his City medical on Friday – as he nears the completion of his transfer across the Pennines.
