Brazilian winger Kayky has begun training with the club today following his move from Fluminense. City had agreed a deal with the winger's club in April and now the player has signed a 5-year-deal with Pep Guardiola's side which will take him to the summer of 2026.
He will be involved in the senior set-up over the next few months as part of a pool of City youth players such as Liam Delap and Cole Palmer that are also being aided by being part of Guardiola's training sessions. Kayky made his Fluminense debut aged 17, is left-footed, can play on either wing and became the club's youngest debutant and scorer in the Copa Libertadores.
Speaking to the club's website, Kayky said:
"It's a dream to be here. I always followed Manchester City, as some Brazilian players are already here. I'm very happy."
Simon Bajkowski of the Manchester Evening News reports that the club had agreed an initial £9m fee with Fluminense, with the deal to be completed in January 2022 at the end of the Brazilian domestic season.
In August, it was announced that the player's contract with Fluminense was terminated so he could join City early and continue his development – the Brazilian side citing their excellent relationship with the Premier League champions in their statement.
The winger came to watch City's 6-3 win over RB Leipzig and began training on Thursday. According to Bajkowski, a first-team debut is possible this season but it will depend on how he fits in.
