Nathan Ake to stay at Manchester City amid intense Chelsea interest

Reports on Friday morning from David Ornstein of The Athletic and Simon Bajkowski of the Manchester Evening News have stated that a mutual decision has been made that Nathan Ake will remain at Manchester City this summer.

Chelsea were said to be keen on signing the 27-year-old Dutch international as part of their defensive overhaul under their new ownership but reportedly did not want to pay City’s asking price.

Ake joined the club in August of 2020 from Bournemouth for £41 million, and it was reported over a fortnight ago by multiple sources that the club wanted at least £50 million to allow Chelsea to take him this summer, with a replacement also needed to sanction a sale.

Pep Guardiola's side had always hoped to hold on to Ake after his versatility proved crucial last season. He made 27 appearances for the club in the 2021/22 season starting 19 games and chipped in with three goals and a couple of very important goal line clearances, which proved significant in securing the Premier League title for his second time in two seasons with the Blues.

Ake is said to be pleased to remain at the club where it is reported he is a popular member of the dressing room, with the club also reported to be very happy with the outcome.
