Paul Tierney appointed as referee for Manchester City vs Arsenal in the FA Cup
With an FA Cup fourth-round tie on the horizon, Manchester City host title rivals Arsenal this Friday at 20:00 (UK). The game will be broadcasted live on ITV1, and the FA has appointed Paul Tierney as the referee. As the game is played at a Premier League ground, VAR will be in operation.
One of the more experienced referees, Tierney has taken charge of City 24 times. So far this season, he's been involved in City's 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge and the 6-0 demolition of Nottingham Forest at the Etihad.
Some other significant fixtures include the 1-0 win over Spurs in the 2021 League Cup final, the 2-2 draw at Anfield in which Mohammed Salah scored a superb solo goal, and the 1-0 defeat to Leicester in the Community Shield – Tierney awarded Leicester a penalty right at the death.
Regarding cards, the 42-year-old has dished out 55 yellows and two reds in the league this season in 16 games – an average of 3.5 cards per game.
