Paul Tierney appointed Community Shield referee

Paul Tierney has been appointed as the referee for Manchester City's Community Shield game against Leicester City at Wembley on the 7th of August (Saturday).

PAUL TIERNEY

City have a fairly good record with Tierney officiating, with the Premier League champions winning 15 out of the 16 games Tierney has been in charge of – losing the other, which was the 2-1 away loss to Newcastle United in 2018/19.

Tierney's last City appointment was the 1-0 Carabao Cup final win against Ryan Mason's Tottenham side last season.

On the appointment, Tierney said:

"I feel really privileged and grateful to have received this appointment and wish to thank the FA for giving me this opportunity to referee the first showpiece match of the season. I’m very lucky to have a great team to be working with and am really looking forward to having Wembley Stadium with fans inside for what should be an excellent game."
