Reports: Ilkay Gundogan injury not too serious

Ilkay Gundogan suffered a shoulder injury at the end of Manchester City's opening fixture of the new Premier League season away at Spurs – today, an update on his situation has been provided.

Mike Minay of BBC Sport Manchester has provided the latest concerning the German international's shoulder injury, which he sustained in injury time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – tweeting that the midfielder's injury is not too serious and that he is not expected to be sidelined for several weeks.

Minay adds that the 30-year-old will undergo further assessments this week on the shoulder.

Last season's top goalscorer at the club will likely miss Norwich's visit to the Premier League champions next Saturday and the full return of fans to the Etihad Stadium.

However, with the acquisition of Jack Grealish, who made his competitive debut at the club in a midfield position, Kevin De Bruyne continuing to regain his fitness and conditioning, and Bernardo Silva still on the books despite his desire to leave, Pep Guardiola will not be short of options for the first game back at home.

City have rejoined the European Club Association (ECA), which they had to leave to join the European Super League (ESL). City, along with AC Milan, Arsenal, Chelsea, Atletico Madrid, Inter, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Tottenham, have had their ECA memberships retained, with the ECA Executive Board taking into consideration the clubs' acknowledgement that the ESL was not in the interests of the wider footballing community and their publicly communicated decisions to abandon the ESL. Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Juventus remain strongly in favour of the ESL.

Ederson, Ruben Dias, and Kevin De Bruyne have been nominated for the Champions League's positional awards.

Ederson and Gabriel Jesus have been called up to the Brazil squad for their upcoming games against Chile, Argentina, and Peru, which could see the pair miss City's first fixture after the international break against Leicester on the 11th of September.

Ben Ransom of Sky Sports reports that Yan Couto is now looking very likely to join Braga on loan in the Portuguese first division, with talks said to be ongoing. The right-back was previously linked with Celtic, but Lyall Thomas, also of Sky Sports, informed that the Scottish Premier League side's push for the 19-year-old came to nothing.

Sky Sport's Anthony Joseph adds that City's Ko Itakura is unlikely to move on loan to Celtic this transfer window – the club were reportedly tracking the 24-year-old Japan international at the Tokyo Olympic Games this summer.
