Simon Hooper appointed as referee for Brighton vs Manchester City

Following the lifting of the Premier League trophy, Manchester City's precession as champions begin this week as the Blues travel to face a tough Brighton side at the Amex in the Premier League's penultimate round of fixtures; the game commences at 20:00 (GMT) and the league has appointed Simon Hooper as referee.

With literally nothing riding on the game, Hooper's record when in charge of City isn't vital, with the title already wrapped up, however, it is worth mentioning Pep Guardiola's side have an impressive set of results with him this season. City have won five out of their six fixtures, with victories such as the 4-1 demolition of Liverpool in April, the comeback against Spurs at the Etihad, and a 2-1 away victory at Craven Cottage - the only time this season City have dropped points with Simon Hooper as referee was against Aston Villa in September 2022.

As for the opposition, Hooper oversaw Brighton's 5-1 shock defeat against relegation-threatened Everton earlier this month. Regarding cards, the 40-year-old has dished out a total of 95 yellow cards in the Premier League this season - an average of 3.52 per game, but has only awarded one player their marching orders.
