Stuart Attwell appointed referee for Manchester City vs Newcastle

Nuneaton born referee Stuart Attwell has been assigned to take charge of Manchester City's next Premier League fixture, as the Blues host Newcastle United at the Etihad. The game will take place on Sunday the 8th of May and kicks off at 16:30 (BST).

Stuart Attwell

The 39-year-old became the youngest referee to officiate a match in the Premier League back in 2008. Since then, he has made 155 appearances in England's top flight, twelve of them involving City. Attwell's last City game was back on New Year's Day as Arsenal hosted the champions. It was a game to behold as Rodri snatched three points for the away side deep into added time. Despite the late goal being one to remember, it wasn't the only reason the match was memorable. Gabriel Magalhaes picked up a foolish yellow card as he scuffed the penalty spot before Riyad Mahrez was able to equalise. Just two minutes later, he received his second yellow for blocking Gabriel Jesus' run into the centre circle.

Attwell's most recent game was the fixture between Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest, a crucial game in deciding the automatic promotion places in the Championship. He brandished two yellows to each side as Bournemouth were announced as the second promoted team to the Premier League as Kieffer Moore won the game.
